Aron Bender catches up with Tessa Barrera -- one of his favorite people ever, even though she's an Astros fan. Born and raised in Texas, she's worked in radio and television news for many years but before that played in the Lingerie Football League, was a participant in Stone Cold Steve Austin's Broken Skull Challenge, and auditioned to become a WWE Diva. We worked together at KFI in Los Angeles, then Tessa moved on to join 94.5 The Buzz and The Rod Ryan Show, the #1 morning show in Houston.

Kevin Cuenca: Grindin All My Life
June 2nd, 2021 | 1 hr 11 mins

Aron Bender is joined by Kevin Cuenca -- a former sports reporter turned content creator who’s driving in his own lane. Especially with a show like Cruisin with Kevin. He worked at CBS2/KCAL9 here in LA but as we talk about in this episode some of the content he was creating didn’t sit well with someone in management. We talk about the late Nipsey Hussle, his most painful tattoo, figuring out social media algorithms, and life as a Navy kid with an alcoholic father.

Freddy Rivera: FM DJ, Podcast Host, Pilot
May 21st, 2021 | 1 hr 1 min

Aron Bender flies with Freddy Rivera -- an FM radio DJ at KOLA 99.9 in Riverside, California, host of the “Radio Flyer” podcast, and a pilot! He’s a SoCal guy I knew from my iHeartRadio days. We'd run into each other as I worked for KFI and he was producing for JoJo on the Radio on 102.7 KIIS FM, and then he rocked overnights on the legendary station. He moved to Dallas to host afternoons on 102.9 Now KDMX but as we talk about in this episode it just wasn't the right fit. Freddy and I also discuss mental health, gratitude, accepting and acknowledging failure is a part of success, and rolling with the punches.

Aron Bender hangs out with Dusty Baker, who grew up in Santa Clarita. With Vin Scully doing play-by-play of our beloved Dodgers, Dusty knew very early on what he wanted to do. And yes, his real name is Dusty Baker. Better believe we get into that during our conversation. Spoiler alert: blame his Dodger fan dad — who also happens to be my daughters’ principal! Dusty just started a new job just up the 101 at KSBY in San Luis Obispo. After graduating from Texas Christian University (Go Frogs!) his first job in TV was at KTAB / KRBC in Abilene, Texas. We talk about why he visited more than a dozen schools trying to pick the right university, and how he ended up visiting a bunch of countries while in college. We get into what life was like growing up as the principal's kid, our love for baseball (the World Champion Dodgers!), his preference for In-N-Out in California over Texas, and why Tex-Mex will never beat Mexican food. Dusty and I also talk about living a life of service to our families, listeners/viewers and communities.
